Tailgate Tips for Dog & Horse shows:

 Dog Shows:

  • Site sizes will vary, self-contained RV’s and trailers will typically be parked in specific areas. Day camping charges are typically charged for RV’s running off their own generators OR box trucks using electricity for grooming.
  • Most sites have minimal elecrrical service and limited water hook-ups available so you will have to share. Some have a dump station for those staying on site.
  • Bring a generator if you need electeric.  30 AMP SERVICE DOES NOT ALWAYS SUPPORT ELECTRIC HEATERS OR A/C UNITS.
  • You probably won't be grilling unless you stay overnight at the site, so bring lots of protein snacks and beverages.
  • Always bring a canopy in case of unexpected rain.  If you don't need it fine, but nothing is worse than grooming in the rain.
  • Never let small children run around unattended and keep your dogs crated or leashed at all times.
  • At indoor shows, unload your dogs and grooming equipment with a reasonable amount of speed and immediately move your vehicle to the designated parking area.

And Horse Shows:

  • Never tie a horse to anything he can pull down, such as a stall front, a lawn chair or wall rack.
  • Even if a horse is safely tied in the alley, stay with him.
  • Never leave small children unattended in the stabling area.
  • If you’re using hay nets in the alley, be sure they don’t become loose and low enough for a horse to get a leg hung up.
  • Do not let dogs run loose and don’t tie a dog in the stable area, where a horse can become entangled in the rope or chain.
  • Stay aware of any electrical cords or equipment that is reach of horses or children.
  • When switching a horse from a stable halter to a show halter, or halter to bridle, try to do it inside a stall to lessen the risk of the horse getting loose if he becomes frightened by commotion in his surroundings.
  • When you arrive at a show, check the walls of your assigned stalls for protruding nails, wires or twine that might have been left during the last use.
  • Unload your horses and tack with a reasonable amount of speed and immediately move your rig to the designated parking area.
